The daddy of 259 starters the last time we looked, Sugar Bars is a familiar name to connoisseurs of the leading sires lists. He was bred by George E. Wood and foaled at El Paso, Texas, in 1951. Sired by Three Bars (TB), Sugar Bars is out of Frontera Sugar by Rey, a good son of the well remembered Captains Courageous (TB), sire also of the celebrated Miss Bank. The dam of Frontera Sugar was the Dun Mare by Ben Hur.

Foaled in 1941, GREY BADGER II was by MIDNIGHT JR out of GREY ANNIE. A double- bred BILLY THE TOUGH horse, GREY BADGER II was bred and trained by Walter Merrick of Oklahoma. After making a name for himself on tracks across Texas and Oklahoma, GREY BADGER II was purchased by the Tom L. Burnett Estate in 1949. The stallion was bred to the Burnett ranch mares, producing some outstanding ranch horses. Many of the Burnett horses still carry his blood. GREY BADGER II sired 250 registered foals in 28 crops. His get included three AQHA Champions and 37 race starters.

Inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 1990, Miss Anne also was a founder of the American Quarter Horse Heritage Center & Museum. She was an Honorary Vice President of both AQHA and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and a director of the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show. Miss Anne loved art as well as horses, and served as a trustee of the Amon Carter Museum of Art and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
